Wow, wow, WOW. Still riding the huge wave of buzz generated by his 2011 freshman effort Glass Swords, is Rustie – a producer hailing from Glasgow whose sound ranges anywhere from pop-fused, euphoria-inducing synth melodies to bass-drenched southern hip-hop beats. Coming from the same strain of the ever-undefinable, but definitely awesome, bass music as the likes of Lunice and Hudson Mohawke, Rustie is known for his high-energy and undeniably danceable productions. This mix is no exception and is a veritable clinic of his excellent abilities as musical curator. Every track in this mix is legitimately brilliant. One moment you’ll be listening to the sugary sweet synth leads of a track like Love Shy’s ‘That First Kiss’, only to have your bones crushed by the ultra-agressive bass of Shiftee’s remix of Xcuse’s ‘All Right’ the very next (around the 19 minute mark). Miami’s own self-proclaimed Don, Ricky Rozay also makes a cameo in the initial stages of the mix with his anthemic ‘The World is Ours’, as well as the inimitable Juicy J with his trippy as fuck flow on ‘Geeked Up Off Them Bars’. Rustie’s got tracks for days and each one is introduced with complete brazenness, ripping the spotlight off the previous tune and placing it squarely on itself. Listening to Rustie is like listening to the thoughts of someone who dove into an ocean of cotton candy, ate it all, and overdosed on it. The dude’s all over the place. And we love it.
